Ideas for Parents!

February, 2013:  Having three children quizzing can be a LOT to help with review, and invariably they will have at least one chapter they share. That one chapter they have on common is the one they go over with each other when I can't. My junior quizzer had his best chapter in chapter 3. This was the chapter he shared with his sister and reviewed with her.

THEN, I have the 2 older quizzers who quiz pick a chapter to go over with each other that's NOT their chapter. They typically find the shortest chapter they can help the other with...but, the great thing is by their second month of review, they both have just picked up another chapter. (from all the review!) Even though they are on the same team, when one is subbed out, the other has found herself answering question in the other sister's chapter. Then when they get to National's, they are not going to be on the same team, so it helps their Nationals team.

For me, or any parent that helps her kids review, there are just days that get crazy and you don't have time to review. Having five chapters that she can have her kids review with each other is helpful.... Plus, it gives the kids the chance to help each other do well, and they not only grow in God's Word, but they support each other with every right answer at every quiz!

Win, Win, in my book!

11/26/12:  Last night, I helped my son memorize nine verses in 30 minutes.  We read the section together, and talked about it for a minute.  He memorized the first verse and said it to me.  After he got it right a couple of time, I had him memorize the second verse.  Once he could say it to me, I had him say both the first and second verse.  We repeated this, adding one verse at a time.  (A couple of times we added two verse since they were short and of the same sentence).  We kept going until he got all nine verses correct.  I pushed him a little, but it worked.

11/09/12 – After our quizzers learn a chapter, we have them review the material with a parent.  But we review it randomly by asking the verses in a mixed up order.  For example, we might ask verse 2, 12, 22 and 32 first, then 7, 17, 27 and 37, working through the entire chapter.  We mark down any verses they miss, and review them when finished.

11/07/12 - Download the questions from the BQF website and ask random questions to your children after they have learned their chapter.
